Come by the shop and check out the latest offerings from legendary shaper Al Merrick including the KS 12. Fine-tuned during the course of Kelly’s 2011 campaign, the Semi-Pro 12 comes from Kelly’s wider forward outline which incorporates a 12” nose. The main purpose of this design change was to allow for more volume which translates to easier paddling and wave catching while still accommodating a short rail for Kelly’s signature arcs.

Translation: This board is an excellent step-up board from your fish/hybrid board and when the waveaves begin to get in the head to overhead range, however, this board will not make you surf like Kelly.

Born in a small, Southern California, blue-collar beach town, graced with world class point breaks and seaside racetracks, where ghosts of a once towering oil industry still linger in the shadows. Iron & Resin is the brainchild of several friends who, after decades of collective experience building successful clothing brands, decided to turn back the clock and start anew. The result is a small, hand built collection of goods that draws heavily upon the founder’s own lifestyles and experiences.

In a mass produced, disposable world, Iron & Resin is a product of “one-off” culture. Where men still build, by their own hands, the craft they ride, be it water or land. Our goods are carefully hand crafted and printed one at a time in California.

In 2008, Christian De La Iglesia and Mark Gamez launched F1RST Surf Shop in the South of Fifth district of South Beach. With over 15 years of experience in the surf & skateboard industries, Mark and Christian decided that South Beach was in need of a true surf shop owned and operated by local surfers. The approach was simple – offer the local surf community a hub where they felt like they were part of the shop, the life and the lifestyle, and to be able to converse with a knowledgeable staff and the owners of the shop themselves.

"The most successful businesses are always the ones that have the owner behind the counter. They know their shop, they know their audience and they know their product," says Mark. "You get into this business for the labor of love, not for the money. You know you aren't retiring anytime soon. Surf shops are for the surfers, by the surfers.”

The original concept behind F1RST Surf Shop is simple. F1RST offers the core essentials for surfing: board shorts, wetsuits, Lycra, tees, hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, and, of course, your top tier surfboard and apparel brands such as Channel Islands Surfboards & Billabong. "We wanted to make sure that we gave the public exactly what they were looking for when going to the beach to surf or to relax at the beach," says Christian. "We wanted to strip the fat off of the surf shop and offer a lean shop with exactly what you need to get the job done."

In the summer of 2010, F1RST Surf Shop relocated to the Continuum Building, located at southern most point of South Beach, placing the shop directly across the street from world famous Nikki Beach (Penrod's for you old folks) and les than 50 footsteps from South Beach's world famous beach breaks. While South Beach is known more for its nightlife than it's quality surf, South Beach does offer an excellent surf break during the right conditions, and when the surf is on, it's on. South Beach provides a hollow, punchy, peaky and fast wave that will humble the best of surfers on a Winter North Swell.

Now nearing its fourth year of business, F1RST is proud to still offer surfers and patrons of the store exactly what they set out to provide the community with – the surfer's essentials. F1RST prides itself in having a shop where its merchandise does the talking and selling, no loud posters or logos (or annoying sales person) falling on top of you. F1RST only works with the best brands available. We wouldn't sell you merchandise that we wouldn't wear ourselves.

Christian and Mark would like to thank the local community of friends that have supported us through the best and worst of times. Without a true loyal & local community support, none of this would have been possible.
